Well, it seems Nike has begun another franchise, a few years and several prototypes later, their new FlyKnit technology, which Nike professes to be a sock plus Nike innovation. The upper half is a web of yarn and flexible cables for support, while the lower half is a cushioned Lunar sole. The yarn is made of quality featherweight polyester, with "varying elasticity, durability, thickness, and strength."

As the successor to Nike's Flywire, the Nike FlyKnit boasts a completely woven single layer upper eliminating much of the inconsistencies of its predecessor to produce an astonishing 5.6-ounce formfitting shoe.
